| Afinke is a Cuban or Puerto Rican word which refers to the spirit that enters the musician and is transmitted through the feel of the music. Joseph Peck has been playing percussion for nearly 20 years. He has toured extensively and performed with the Potential Symphony during Carnival in Trinidad. He is program band director of the Wichita State Steel Pan Orchestra and teaches world music history at Wichita State University (WSU). Chris Herriage plays drum set and is studying percussion performance at WSU under J.C. Combs. He has studied with numerous music masters and performs with steel drum, blues, jazz and hip hop groups. Mark Lewis received a bachelor's and master's degree in percussion performance from WSU and has studied with Matt Wilson, Dave Samuels and more. He has worked on six recording projects and is the director of instrumental music and music studies at The Independent School in Wichita. Matt Maholland has performed with groups including the City of Lawrence Municipal Band and the Missouri Repertory Opera and has studied with J.C. Combs, Mike Spiro, Alex Acuna, Madeline Yoyodele and more. He has toured most of the U.S .and Canada, recorded a variety of CD projects and is working on a master's degree at WSU. Troy Olson arranges and performs material never before attempted on a steel drum. He has been described as innovative and has impressed notable musicians such as Ellie Mannette, John Serry, Dave Samuels and Dave Friedman with his talent and arrangements. |
