PROGRAM NOTES BY GARY SHELDON: Over the years, the Community Orchestra performance has represented a wonderful experience to the many musicians from the community Ñ students, amateurs and professionals Ñ who have sat side by side with members of the Lancaster Festival Orchestra. It has also been a heartwarming experience for me to conduct so many dedicated musicians from our community, many of whom have their first orchestral experience with us. And what a community event it has become! The Community Orchestra has performed at Fountain Square, Firehouse Park, Rising Park and at the Zane Square Bandstand. If you are an instrumentalist and you have not yet joined us, please stop by the bandstand and sit in with students and many friends from the community. The relaxed open rehearsal attracts a large crowd each year, and the members of the Lancaster Festival Orchestra who play with us count this as a festival highlight too! |
