| La Negra Karin y Los Llaneros performs the music of the South American llanos (savannas) which combines difficult instrumental techniques with vigorous, poignant lyrics. The ensemble plays traditional instruments including the cuatro (a small four-stringed guitar) and capachos (Llanero maracas), as well as guitar, percussion and wind instruments. They have received high praise from media as well as from Costa Rica's former president and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Oscar Arias Sanchez. The Llanos is a region of cattle ranches which artistic director Karin Stein likens to the American West Ňcowboy culture.She is joined by Henry Benavides and Juan Carlos GenŽ. |
