| Guitarist Tom Carroll is a self-taught musician who plays hard-core jazz and blues. Carroll studied with Dave Wheeler, who also taught him theory and arranging. He has worked with national and local talent including Rusty Bryant, Jack McDuff, Bobby Pierce and Gary Carney and performed at OSU, Denison, Capital University, private parties and a host of area clubs. Now an active educator, he lectures in the jazz studies program at OSU, teaches guitar and conducts a jazz combo at Denison University. Jazz pianist/organist Hank Marr is an associate professor of music in the jazz studies program at OSU, conductor of the OSU Jazz Workshop Ensemble and supervisor of the jazz combo program. He performs, arranges and records with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra and is on staff with the Jamey Aebersole summer jazz workshops. His CD, "The Greasy Spoon," received a four-star rating in Down Beat Magazine and he has received numerous honors including the Continuing Legacy Award at the Columbus Music Awards in 1994. |
