From Russia with Love

Dmitri Pogorelov

Two of Russia's most sensational young soloists today are spotlighted on the colorful and romantic opening night program. Olga Kern is recent top prizewinner in the Van Cliburn Piano Competition. Dmitri Pogorelov was awarded the Wilkes Young Artist Fellowship for the second time this summer, the first recipient to be honored as such. Gary Sheldon conducts the Lancaster Festival Orchestra. Many will recognize the romantic theme of the song, "Stranger in Paradise" from the musical Kismet, originally composed by Borodin in the Polovetsian Dance.

Music and Mayhem

The Flying Karamazov Brothers share the stage with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra to bring a delightfully zany mixture of music, juggling, dancing, witty repartee and audience participation. The captivating juggling and humorous high jinks appeal to all ages. The musical program contains many beloved classics, including The William Tell Overture and In The Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt. A fantastic fireworks finale is accompanied by Tchaikowsky's exciting 1812 Overture.

Chamber Music Classics
The Generation Gap Trio: From Rameau to Ragtime

An entertaining program awaits featuring favorite festival chamber musicians Judith Stillman, piano; Dmitri Pogorelov, violin; and John Sant'Ambrogio, cello. The artists will introduce each of the works in an informative and entertaining manner.

Michael Davis

The festival orchestra presents an enchanting program of classical music's 'other boy genius'. Only 30 years after Mozart lived, Felix Mendelssohn composed some of the most delightful music ever heard while still in his teens and twenties. Festival concertmaster Michael Davis takes the spotlight in Mendelssohn's beloved concerto for violin. Gary Sheldon conducts the Lancaster Festival Orchestra in their debut performance at the lovely Faith Memorial Church.

An Evening with
Shawn Colvin and Livingston Taylor

Enjoy the folk-pop fusion of Grammy-Award winning singer-songwriter and guitarist Shawn Colvin as she performs an intriguing repertoire of original story-songs. Pop singer-songwriter, (and brother to James) Livingston Taylor, who includes guitar, piano and five-string banjo in his performances, opens the evening.

A Grand Finale

Country Music Association and Grammy Award-winning artist Randy Travis joins Maestro Sheldon and the Lancaster Festival Orchestra for an evening of traditional country hits and inspirational favorites. Mr. Travis is one of the ten biggest-selling country artists of all time, garnering more than 25 Top 10 hits.
