Kim Shelley received her Bachelors and Masters
degrees in music performance from The St. Louis Conservatory and School
for the Arts where she studied with Richard Holmes, John Kasica, and
Thomas Stubbs. Ms. Shelley has performed with the St. Louis Symphony
Orchestra and recorded over thirty selections of music under the Telarc
and RCA label. She also has performed as Principal Timpanist/Percussionist
with the San Francisco Symphony, Minnesota Symphony, Summit Brass,
Monarch Brass, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Illinois Symphony, and
Illinois Chamber Orchestra.
Performances with summer festivals have included principal timpani with
the Lancaster Festival Orchestra, Grand Tetons Music Festival, Shenandoah
Bach Music Festival and the Wintergreen Music Festival. She has performed
as guest soloist with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, Illinois
Symphony, University of Missouri-Columbia Orchestra, Millikin Percussion
Ensemble and the Ladue Hortkin-Watkins Percussion Ensemble.
In addition to her performance career, Ms. Shelley is also an active
teacher. Her students have won numerous scholarships and competitions,
including over 100 State Solo & Ensemble awards. Ms. Shelley has also
directed the St. Louis Symphony
Music School Percussion Ensemble and the Parkway West High School
Percussion Ensemble. Ms. Shelley was the Director of Instrumental Music
at Whitfield School for five years. She has given master classes at the
Iowa Day of Percussion, Missouri Music Educators Association, and the
St. Louis Day of Percussion. She has also served as Treasurer for the
Missouri Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, and is currently a
member of the Missouri Music Educators Association, Arizona Music
Educators Association, and the College Music Society.
Ms. Shelley is currently the Assistant Band Director/Percussion Specialist for
the Clayton School District in St. Louis, Missouri.
Kim enjoys fishing at Brad & Angie's home and
hanging out at the Pink Cricket during the festival!
