"In stone, Dr. Miesse sculpted this head of his young son, Leon Edgar. He was also a fine musician and composer, and his stirring march "Mt. Pleasant Echoes" is still played occasionally by the United States Marine Band and others."

"Dr. Gabriel Miesse, Jr. upon the untimely death of his only son, turned to the arts. He became known both as an accomplished pianist and prolific painter in the last decades of the 19th century. Several of his historical scenes were used to illustrate Hervey Scott's History of Fairfield County, published in 1876. He also painted many pastoral scenes and still life pictures."
