TRIBUTE ~ An Exhibit to reflect on the quiet inspiration of Tony Davenport

The Lancaster Festival and Ohio University-Lancaster sponsored an exhibit during the 2004 Festival as a tribute to the late Tony Davenport. Tony was a participant in the Festival ArtWalk and an instructor at OU-L in ceramics and sculpture for almost 25 years. During that time, he touched the lives of many of his students. The exhibit consists of works by Tony’s students, and includes a statement by each student describing how Tony had inspired them to create, or had inspired them in other aspects of life.

Festival Program Note:

The Lancaster Festival and Ohio University-Lancaster are proud to co-sponsor an exhibit in honor of the late Tony Davenport. Tony taught ceramics and sculpture at OU-L for 25 years and was an active Festival volunteer.

The exhibit features the works of Tony’s former students and includes statements describing how he inspired them both personally and artistically.

Tony was an accomplished sculptor with works in collections in the Unites States and Europe. His preferred media were ceramic, aluminum, handmade paper and sheet metal. He was generous with his time and abilities, sharing his skills in architecture, carpentry, music and theater among students and the community.

The exhibit opened July 20, 2004 and ran through August 31 in the Wilkes Gallery at OU-L.
Ursula Lanning is the exhibit curator. Exhibit photos provided by Ella Hopkins.
