I was shocked and saddened by Tony's unexpected death. I have taken many ceramics classes at OU-L over the years with Tony as my teacher. My identity as an artist was formed in his classroom. I will always picture him in his canvas apron, smudges of red clay on his arms, always moving rapidly from one student to a kiln, to the blackboard, to the clay, to the glazes, back to another student--his love of clay became our love of clay.
Tony encouraged me to take risks with my art; he was always supportive. Smiling, he once told me there were two types of Art: Public and Private. Mine, he said, was Public, because I was never shy or afraid to show my feelings through my work for others to see. I will never forget Tony.
